• How much is the fee charged for a Malaysia Passport? What are the documents that need to be submitted?

Fees charged are RM 300 for adults and RM 150 for children under 12. For students who are under 21 years old and will be going overseas to study, the rate is RM 150. Exemption is given to special groups (disabled) on condition that they enclose a verification letter from the Social Welfare Department. The documents that need to be enclosed are Identification Card (original and copies) and Birth Certificate (original and copies) together with 2 passport sized photos.

• How long does it take to process a Passport Application?

It takes 3 working days to process a Passport application.

• I have two children. Can I include the particulars of both children in my MRP?

  The Malaysian Passport System (new) does not allow for particulars of the child/children to be included in the passports of their parents.

• I have lost my MRP. What should I do? What documents and forms should l submit?

  First, you need to lodge a report at the nearest Police Station. Then fill in the passport application and Survey Forms, which can be obtained, form the Immigration Offices for you to submit an application for replacement.

• I had an argument with my wife and she tore my MRP. What should I do to replace that passport? How long will it take to get a new one?

  You need to fill in the passport application and the Survey Forms from the Immigration Offices for you to submit your application for replacement. According to the Department's Charter, the replacement process takes about 1 (one) month.

• I am a pensioner aged 60. Am I eligible for the half-price rate for a MRP?

  No, The Government has decided that only children under 12 years old and students under 21 years old are eligible for the half-price rate for a Malaysian Passport.

• I was informed that the Immigration Department would not accept instant photos that were taken at any photo outlets. Is this statement true?

  Yes, it is. It is feared that the photo quality will not meet the Department's requirement.

• I am now in Amsterdam and wish to apply for a new MRP. What should I do? Is MRP issued at the embassy?

  Yes, you can submit an application to the Malaysian Embassy in the respective country and you'll be given an old version of Malaysia Passport once in Malaysia, you may apply for a biometric passport.

• I was supposed to take the MH 107 flight to Hong Kong at 8.00 o'clock this morning but the Immigration Officer at KLIA had withheld my passport. What should I do now and why was my MRP withheld?

  You may have committed an offence under the Immigration Act, been declared bankrupt or involved in a criminal case. You can contact the Security Division at the Immigration Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur.

• My mother is blind. Is there a special counter for the disabled like my mother at your department? I was informed that the disabled will not be charged any fees. What are the conditions that need to be fulfilled before she is able to enjoy this benefit?
  

  The Department has a special counter for the elderly, disabled and expectant mothers. For the special groups, they have to get a verification letter from the Social Welfare Department or from the medical specialist at the Government Hospital.

• I have a Masters in Engineering and am interested to work in Malaysia. What are the conditions and procedures for submitting an application?

  First of all, you need to get an offer to work in Malaysia and your application should be made by your employer. You are allowed to enter Malaysia only after your application has been approved.

• I am a citizen of Nigeria and am married to a Malaysian citizen. I want to work and reside permanently with my wife in Malaysia. I want to ascertain if there is a provision for people in my situation. If there is, what are the conditions and procedures?

  You can apply to work under the 'Spouse Programme', which was launched by the Immigration Department in 1998. • My employee is a citizen of Bangladesh and has worked for me for 6 years. My question is, what is the best way for me to extend his work permit? Can he apply for permanent resident?

  Application to extend the work permit of foreign workers can be made at the Foreign Workers Division, Immigration Headquarters, Putrajaya. He is not eligible for permanent resident because he has not fulfilled the conditions stated in the Immigration Act.

• How long can a foreign maid work in Malaysia?

  For foreign maids there is NO time limit. The maid can work for as long as she is required by her employer.

• My employee had applied for leave to return to Indonesia but she has not come back at the end of her leave. What should I do if I want to employ a new foreign maid? Are there any additional conditions to the existing ones?

  You have to pay RM 250.00 as fines before you can submit a new application.

• I married a Thai citizen and am blessed with 2 children. Both children are Thai citizens. Can I apply for the status of permanent resident for them? For your information, my eldest child is 8 years old and the younger one is 5.

  The status of permanent resident is given only to children below 6 (six) years whose parents are citizens.

  The online system is for the application for foreign maids only. Only maid agencies registered with the Immigration Department Malaysia can submit their applications online. To get the ID and password, please contact the Foreign Workers Division, Immigration Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur.

• I wish to employ workers from Bangladesh and Indonesia to work at my soap factory. What is the policy of the Malaysian Government regarding this?

• My friend from China came to Malaysia and was given a Social Pass Visit (SPV) for 30 days. The problem is she has overstayed. I don't know what to do. Please help.

  Chinese citizens are allowed to stay for 30 days only with the Social Pass Visit. For Chinese citizens who are given the Business Pass Visit, the duration of stay in Malaysia is only 30 days. Please come to the Enforcement Division, Immigration Department Malaysia to settle the matter.
